Matt Dwyer is one of our Monday & Wednesday Guitar teachers – suited to Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced. He is available for Individual and Group Sessions by appointment.

With close to two decades of playing shows all over Australia and internationally, award winning guitarist and multi-instrumentalist (Bass, Banjo, Resonator Guitar, Lap steel) & can also incorporate vocals, songwriting, arranging and performing.

Matt Dwyer is now available for exclusive tuition at The Sound Lab. As a guitarist, he is in a class of his own.

Whether it’s blues, jazz, rock, swing, rockabilly, finger-style or slide, Matt can take your playing to whole new level.

As a teacher Matt is patient, enthusiastic and dedicated. He believes that every student is different and his lessons are tailored to the individual’s level, experience and musical taste.

Harley Stewart

Harley Stewart is one of our Monday & Tuesday Guitar teachers – suited to Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced. He is available for Individual and Group Sessions by appointment.

Harley is a young, exciting & dedicated musician with a wealth of experience and originality. He has learned from & worked with some of Australia’s most respected musicians & has been sharing his musical knowledge with students for over 10 years. He has toured the country and beyond with many headlining acts and has composed & produced music in many renowned recording studios across Australia.

Harley has traveled the world playing and learning music of many contrasting styles and has gathered skills on many instruments such as Drums & Percussion, Electric & Double Bass, Vocals, Piano, Hammond Organ & Harmonica.

As a student of the Victorian College of the Arts, he has refined his theoretical and technical skills and has developed a versatile stylistic voice ranging from… Rock n Roll, Blues, Funk, Reggae, Brasillian Samba, Choro and Bossa Nova, Jazz, Gypsy, Classical, Flamenco, Cuban, Modern, Electronic.

His relaxed nature invites you to move at your own pace and learn the music that gets you going, whether you are beginning your musical journey or advancing into uncharted terrain.


Tristan McCoppin

Tristan McCoppinTristan McCoppin is one of our Tuesday Guitar teachers – suited to Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced. He is available for Individual and Group Sessions by appointment.

Tristan began learning guitar & singing age 14 at St Michael’s Grammar school where he developed an interest in blues, pop and funk styles.
At age 17 he began guitar lessons at the Victorian College of the Arts. In 2000 successfully auditioned for the Bachelor of Music course at the VCA on classical guitar lessons and completed the course in 2003 with honours.

He has played as a session guitarist and backing vocalist in many Melbourne hip hop, soul and funk bands with the likes of Jumbledat, Cooking on Three Burners, Relax with Max, Kylie Auldist Band and Ajak Kwai Band. He has also toured the East coast and West coast numerous times and In 2011 played at Woodford Folk Festival and Byron Bay Blues & Roots Festival.

He has taught at Melbourne and Trinity Grammar Schools 2003 teaching boys from years 7 – 12. He has also taught at Davis Music Centre in Footscray since 2002, teaching students of all ages.


Alex Pijpers

Alex PijpersAlex Pijpers is one of our Monday Guitar teachers – suited to Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced. He is available for Individual and Group Sessions by appointment.

Alex has been teaching and gigging around Australia for over eight years. Growing up listening to blues and rock artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Buddy Guy, Alex picked up the guitar at the age of thirteen.

In the following years he has studied, gigged and taught in jazz, blues, funk, soul, country, metal, pop and rock bands and is well-equipped to teach students to play in any style and setting.

Alex recently graduated a Bachelor of Music, majoring on Jazz guitar, at the Queensland Conservatorium. During this degree Alex received tutelage from some of Australia’s premier professional musicians and performed in many bands of different styles and genres around Brisbane.

Alex moved to Melbourne in late 2010 and has since been teaching at various schools and performing in a variety of bands around Victoria.


Joshua Bucci

Joshua Bucci is one of our Wednesday Guitar teachers – suited to Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced. He is available for Individual and Group Sessions by appointment.

Josh completed studying music performance at VCA in 2010 where he gained the skills and experience to begin arranging and performing music professionally and has been acknowledged for his ability to do so at the technical ability of a AMEB grade four performer.

Previously managed by a Sydney talent agency, Josh performed at the opening of EQ (Entertainment Quarter) previously known as Fox Studios Sydney and at The Sydney Spring Racing Carnival.

Josh featured with his acoustic/voice duo performing original compositions in The Gershwin Room at The Esplanade Hotel as well as in live music venues throughout Melbourne.

Josh was also invited to record the acoustic guitar for the first Music Play For Life initiative set up to encourage Australian school kids to take up performing music. The event was broadcast on national television and has since become an annual event.

As a Guitar teacher at The SoundLab, Josh aims works with each student to clarify their musical goals and provide them with the tools to help achieve them.


Stephen Bowtell

Stephen BowtellStephen is suited to Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced. He is also available for Group & Individual Sessions by appointment.

Primarily self-taught and growing up in a house full of Blues, African Drumming, Middle Eastern groove…and more Blues, Stephen’s passion for guitar and rhythm began at age six. Stephen and his guitar have been inseparable ever since! His earliest and most powerful influences were Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and the Allman Brothers.

Stephen began establishing an audience throughout Australia at age 15. He has appeared in the Towradgi Blues Festival, the Australian Blues Festival (Goulburn) and at the Tamworth Music Festival as a guest at the Gibson Guitar Showcase. Support gigs include Joe Camilleri and the Black Sorrows, Diesel at the Palais, Wolf Mail (USA) Australian Tour, Mal Eastick, Doug Williams and Central Coast band Chase the Sun.

Having released an EP in January 2008 featuring original tracks, Stephen is presently recording his first full record “Walk on the Blue side”.
