Jacob Bowker

Piano

Jacob Bowker is a professional Piano/Keyboard player based in Melbourne, with over 15 years of performance experience. Completing his Bachelor of Music Performance (Jazz Piano) in 2014 at Monash University in Melbourne, Jacob has learnt from some of Australia’s best jazz musicians including Steve Sedergreen, Marc Hannaford, Tony Gould & Frank DiSario.

Through Monash University, he was given the chance to enrol in a 3 week Jazz Improv Program in New York at NYU (New York University) as well as perform at the Melbourne Jazz Festival and Wangaratta Festival of Jazz & Blues.

Over the last 5 years, Jacob had been performing on “Carnival” cruise ships across the United States and the Caribbean. Playing in both 6 and 9 piece contemporary pop rock bands, Jacob’s most recent position onboard the “Carnival Vista” was band leader. With a capacity of 4,000 people, Jacob was found managing several different musicians on board “The Vista”, ensuring their performances were at the high standards set by the cruise ship industry. This opportunity gave Jacob the chance to play with different musicians from all over the world and to experience many different countries, landscapes and cultures. When he was not performing, Jacob began teaching the cruise staff to play piano. Jacob found teaching across the language barrier was a welcomed challenge and began to learn Spanish to better communicate with his students.

Jacob offers excellent communication between teacher and student creating a fun, inclusive environment to ensure that his
students develop a passion for playing piano across varying styles including,
jazz, soul/funk & classic rock.
